Job Title:  Construction Technician

Responsible to: Centre Manager

Location: Roles based in Central and Greater London, South West England & West Midlands

Construction skills required: Groundwork, Steel Fixing, Formwork, Concrete Operations, Demolition and Plant operatives, Ductwork, Interior Systems, Retro Fit or Green technology

Salary: depending on skills and experience and potential for performance related bonus

The purpose of the position:

To support the Operations Director and Tutors with ensuring that the outside learning areas are safe and suitable for training and that construction materials and equipment are available as and when required. The job holder will need to provide general labouring support when required and ensure basic maintenance is completed on the facilities. 

Principle duties and responsibilities:

  • Enthusiastic hard-working individual able to work on their own initiative
  • Responsible for maintaining the outside learning areas (Yard) and ensuring that material and equipment are available when required.
  • Undertake basic maintenance on the facilities when required. 
  • Ensure that Health and Safety Requirement are complied with and reported where necessary
  • Daily supervision of the Apprentice Technicians
  • Liaise with the tutors to ensure that materials and equipment for learning are available when requested
  • Support the tutor to cover practical sessions and cover theory based learning where appropriate
  • Store materials safely and securely
  • Manage a small support budget for equipment
  • Liaise with the appropriate equipment firms to ensure that plant hire is available and returned appropriately. 
  • Ensure compound welfare facilities are maintained;
  • Ensure all plots under construction are kept tidy by all trades;
  • Ensure all waste across the site is segregated and recycled following company guidelines.
  • Carry out all works on site as instructed by the Site Manager and in line with company standards and procedures;

Key experience, knowledge and skills

  • Fit and healthy as some heavy lifting may be required
  • Demonstrable experience of a similar or equivalent role
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relations with others
  • Knowledge and understanding of operational procedures
  • Organised and with demonstrable planning skills
  • Keen to learn and develop into the role
  • Conscientious and accurate
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Good I.T. skills including word processing, database and spreadsheet experience (experience of using Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint is desirable)

Qualification and training required

Essential

  • CSCS Card or partner scheme or willing to undertake. 
  • Level 3 AET or working towards

Desirable

  • Full Clean Driving License
  • Key Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and I.T
  • Technical QCF in Construction
