About the Role
We are looking for a practical, all-round General Maintenance Technician to take care of the day-to-day repairs and general upkeep of our training centres and office locations.
This position requires a proactive and self-driven individual who excels both independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will efficiently manage their workload across multiple locations and consistently demonstrate a commitment to resolving issues correctly on the first attempt.
You will plan and prioritise your own diary, moving between sites as needed, so this role suits someone organised, reliable and confident making decisions on the ground without close supervision.
You'll be the first port of call for general repairs and maintenance — from a dripping tap or sticking door to basic electrical, carpentry, painting and decorating work — stepping in personally wherever your skills allow, and knowing when a job needs to be passed to a specialist contractor.

Location: London, with regular travel to centres across London, Essex and the Midlands
Key Duties
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out a broad range of hands-on repair and maintenance tasks across all sites, covering basic plumbing, electrics, carpentry, painting/decorating, and general fabric repairs
- Plan and manage your own daily and weekly schedule, prioritising jobs across multiple locations to make the best use of your time
- Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests and resolve issues on the spot wherever possible
- Carry out routine planned preventative maintenance (PPM) checks and minor repairs
- Know your own limits and escalate specialist or statutory works to the Estates and Technology Director for contractor sign-off
- Keep clear, accurate records of work completed, materials used and any issues identified
- Support basic health and safety checks, including fire safety and emergency lighting spot-checks, reporting any concerns promptly
- Assist with site logistics, including room setups and moving equipment or furniture
- Order or collect materials as needed and keep tools and van stock organised
- Work safely and tidily, leaving each site in a good state after every visit
Qualification and Training Required
Essential
- Solid, proven experience as , maintenance operative or tradesperson, ideally across multiple sites or buildings
- Broad practical skills across several trades (e.g. basic plumbing, electrics, carpentry, painting and decorating, general repairs)
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision, using good judgement about what to fix, what to escalate, and when
- Strong self-organisation and time-management skills, able to plan a multi-site working day efficiently
- A practical, can-do attitude with good problem-solving instincts
- Comfortable using tools, ladders and basic equipment safely
- Good communication skills, both with colleagues and when liaising with contractors or suppliers
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly between sites
Additional Requirement
- A full UK driving licence is essential (a company van will be provided for travel between centres and transporting tools, equipment and materials).
Desirable
- A recognised trade qualification (e.g. plumbing, electrical, carpentry) or equivalent experience
- Basic Health and Safety awareness or training (e.g. IOSH, or on-the-job equivalent)
- Experience working in a multi-site, education or training environment
