At The Skills Centre West Midlands, we offer three FREE pathways designed to help you build skills, gain qualifications, and take your first steps into the industry.
Pathway 1: Path2Apprenticeship
Focused on helping you secure an apprenticeship in the construction industry.
Eligibility:
- Resident of Birmingham or Solihull
- UK resident for 3+ years
- Aged 19–29
- Currently unemployed or NEET
What you’ll gain:
- Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment
- Level 1 Certificate in Basic Construction Skills
- CITB CSCS Green Card
- NOCN Environmental Awareness in Construction
- NOCN Personal Wellbeing in Construction
- On-site work experience with a local employer
- Apprenticeship-mapped skills and qualifications
- Careers guidance & employability skills
Programme may last up to 16 weeks for learners who require additional support.
Pathway 2: Youth Guarantee Programme
Designed for 18-year-olds, this pathway can lead to apprenticeships, jobs, or further education.
Eligibility:
- Aged 18 as of August 2025
- Living in West Midlands Combined Authority
- Unemployed or NEET
- UK resident for 3+ years
What you’ll gain:
- All the benefits of Path2Apprenticeship
- Tailored support for young people transitioning into work or education
- Real opportunities to progress into apprenticeships, employment, or college courses
Pathway 3: Construction Gateway
A shorter, intensive programme to help you step straight into entry-level construction jobs.
Eligibility:
- Aged 19+
- Unemployed and looking to start work in construction
- Living in West Midlands Combined Authority
- 3 Years’ UK Residency
What you’ll gain:
- Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment
- CITB CSCS Green Card
- Employability training and careers support
- Guaranteed introductions to employers with live vacancies
