Gain practical rigging skills to move loads safely
This hands-on NPORS course gives new starters the knowledge and skills to support safe lifting operations on site. Across three days you will cover key legislation, equipment, and techniques before completing a combined theory and practical assessment to earn your NPORS Trained Operator (Rigger/Fleeting) card.

What you will learn
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Explain the roles and responsibilities in lifting operations
- Identify hazards and reduce risk during rigging and fleeting activities
- Reference key regulations and guidance (e.g. LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA)
- Select the right accessories for the task and interpret certification/documentation
- Calculate load weight and centre of gravity; understand sling angles and de‑rating
- Use chain blocks, lever hoists (come‑alongs), Tirfor/PU machines and common accessories within their capabilities and limits
- Attach and remove lifting accessories correctly to a variety of loads
- Assemble and manage simple fleeting runs, including proximity hazard controls
- Communicate clearly during lifting operations and follow the lift plan
Course format (3 days)
This course is taught over 3 days with a mix of theory/classroom based learning and practical training in our yard. Learners will complete both a theory test and practical assessment to achieve qualification.

Certification

What to bring / Entry requirements
- Basic understanding of Lift Operations is required.
- PPE for practical sessions (safety boots, gloves, hard hat, hi-vis). Additional PPE may be required depending on site conditions.
