Introduction to Formwork

OUR NEW, FREE, SPECIALIST FORMWORK BOOTCAMPS ARE A GREAT NEXT-STEP AFTER GAINING YOUR CSCS GREEN CARD. 

You’ll start to develop the specialist skills and knowledge needed for a traineeship or apprenticeship in Formwork, as well as gaining work experience with one of our local employers.

What is Formwork?

Formwork is the temporary or permanent mold used to shape concrete structures. Traditionally made from wood, but also from steel or plastic, it provides crucial support until the concrete hardens and can stand on its own. Formwork is essential in creating everything from foundations to high-rise buildings.

To excel in formwork, you’ll develop a range of practical skills. These include basic carpentry, reading technical drawings, precise measuring, and working with a variety of materials. Physical fitness, problem-solving, and teamwork are also key as formwork often involves manual labor and collaboration with others on site.

This programme has been developed with support from the Construct Group - which represents over 80% of employers in the concrete structures industry in the UK.

Additional qualifications may be provided in line with employer demand at the time of enrolment.
 

Eligibility and Funding

Funding is provided by the Greater London Authority. Learners must meet the following criteria:

  • A resident in the UK/Europe for at least the last 3 years
  • Currently a resident of a London Borough
  • Aged 19+
  • Hold photographic ID
  • CSCS Green Card (Preferred*)
  • Candidates must also be able to commit to attending the required times for the full duration of the course

Learners who do not yet hold a CSCS Card may be eligible for alternative/additional training to help them become site-ready.
