Samuel's Bootcamp Experience
Samual Ajayi, a recent participant in one of our Bootcamps, joined us to talk about his experience.
How did you first learn about The Skills Centre, and what caught your interest?
I walk past a lot of construction sites in the mornings, and I’ve noticed how friendly and happy everyone always seems. This got me curious about the industry, so I started researching how to gain a CSCS card. During my search, I came across The Skills Centre, which offers training for both beginners and experienced workers. It seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to join one of their programmes!
What specific aspects of the programme did you enjoy the most, and why did they stand out to you?
I really enjoyed the site visit as it gave me a firsthand look at what happens on-site. This experience made me even more eager to pursue a job in construction.

What tips would you give to someone considering enrolling in this programme?
It's crucial to be punctual for the course, as arriving late could mean missing out on important information essential for your learning. Being on time ensures you don’t miss key details that could make a big difference in your understanding. Additionally, it’s important to have an open mindset and a willingness to learn. Approaching the course with enthusiasm and readiness to absorb new knowledge will help you make the most of the experience and set you up for success in the field.
Now that you have completed the programme, in what ways do you think the qualifications will help you in your career or personal development?
The course has been incredibly helpful in preparing me for interviews, as employers attended to conduct interviews with us. This provided valuable experience and gave me useful tips on how to respond effectively in interviews. It also allowed me to engage with peers from diverse backgrounds, which broadened my perspective. The qualification I’ve earned is not only great, but it also offers more than just the basic CSCS knowledge. I now have a deeper understanding, and a broader skill set, which will benefit me moving forward in my career.
What inspired you to join this programme in the first place?
I’ve always wanted to work in construction because there are so many different career paths to explore. I truly believe that with the right effort and dedication, I’ll be able to make great progress in the industry and find a path that suits me.
After completing the programme, what is your overall impression of your experience?
The staff at The Skills Centre are incredibly hands-on and supportive. Even when I struggled with confidence, they were there to help me get back on track and believe in myself. Overall, not only have I gained a valuable qualification, but the experience has also greatly boosted my confidence. This newfound confidence will benefit me not just in my career, but throughout my life.
